Did you catch that fall feel in the air this afternoon? Well, start digging in the attics, cellars and sheds and dust off those old sleds as the OVSC is gearing up for another one of our fantastic fall swap meets to be held once again at Canoe King/All Sports Autoracks! Stay tuned and check back often as we finalize the dates & times for this must attend event.

Have you taken a good look in the swamps lately? That's right, the first trees are starting to show early fall colors! Yes, we still have plenty of summer weather ahead of us but the days are getting shorter and fall work parties are quickly approaching. Please keep a close eye on these pages in the coming weeks for important updates as we gear up for yet another snowy winter in one of New Hampshire's premier snowmobiling areas!

Of important note is this fall's anticipated bridge building project. The steel and lumber will be ready for delivery soon, and plenty of helping hands will be needed to help our President David Bowles in completing this must needed project that is high atop his 2008 "to do" list.

Last but not least, we still need to replace the stolen Warn winch for our Tucker. To date we have received approximately $100 in donations, and could really use any additional spare change to help replace this very necessary item! If you can help, the great folks at Canoe King/Allsports Autoracks are ready and willing to handle your donation....and thanks for helping out!

More to come soon.....

Well here we are, at the tail end of the most exciting and fulfilling snowmobile season in the history of the Ossipee Valley Snowmobile Club. Mother Nature stepped up to the plate and the batters at the OVSC, with the financial and personal support of both our members and riders, hit one out of the park!

While we are grateful to so many this season a special thank you needs to be extended to all the folks at Bureau of Trails in general, and to Chris Gamache and Mike Weeks in particular. The faith and trust placed in the Club by the great folks at BOT helped ensure the smooth and successful season we all enjoyed.

Now to the nuts and bolts. As the season winds down and our record snows dissipate we would like the rider to be aware of the spring conditions just ahead of us. First and foremost be aware that trail conditions will vary greatly with location and time of day. Expect icy conditions evenings and during first light. As the days warm and the sun gets stronger the trails will quickly become loose very early. Also expect a variety of stumps, rocks and waterbars to begin the eventual appearance, first down low then working their way up to higher elevations. Also expect continuously changing conditions along the Corridor 19 rail trail. Rails and switches will soon be rearing their ugly head, a condition we have not had to deal with most of this long season!

Finally, expect the grooming schedule to become more relaxed as the opportunities to groom lessen in the coming weeks. Warm weather and rain makes grooming impossible, but rest assured that as long as we can reach the trails we will groom when conditions allow.

During these last weeks of the season we will keep you as best informed as possible of the changing conditions via our website.

In closing we want to once again thank all of you that have made this season a record breaking success for the OVSC. We truly appreciate the kind words, additional donations and the extra help we received from our customers this season. We encourage all of you to stay active in our Club by monitoring our website during the off season for information on trail parties, social events and next season’s meeting schedule. We look forward to hearing from you in the off season, and can’t wait to meet all of you back out on the trails this upcoming winter!

Finally we have some time to sit and update the website. We have been busy digging out from the heavy wet snow of last week. It has topped off and already deep base. The local trails are in really great shape.  We expect these conditions to continue despite a front of slightly warmer temps and rain that will be in the area for just one day. This is going to be a great vacation week for visiting riders.

Remember, next week is the RMR SnoX happening at Mt Whittier. We expect a bigger turn-out than last year so come early to get a good spot on the course.

Our grooming operations will continue normally this week. Enjoy the riding and be safe.

And it just keeps snowing!!!!!! More snow is expected tonight into tomorrow with 10" expected.
As you may notice our website does not get updated every single day. The reason is that we are busy and can't sit behind the keyboard all day. Plowing snow, Clearing Roofs, Clearing Trails, Grooming, Working at our jobs, Going to meetings and on and on.

So again a call for help is going out.
We have trail signs that have gone missing! Where did they go????? We have replaced some already but more need to go out. Can anyone help? Canoe King has plenty of signs in stock. If your familiar with our trail system we could sure use your help.

Grooming operations are ongoing. The trails are best first thing in the morning because grooming is normally done at night when there is substantially less snowmobile traffic. As the day wears on and sled traffic has used the trails you MUST expect deteriorating trail smoothness. Also after a trail is groomed it has to SET UP. That means the newly moved snow has to get stiff to stand up to traffic better. When riders ride just after a groomer has gone over the trail you might as well not have groomed it. It's loose and will bump up immediately.

State wide, snowmobiling is in trouble. Why? There are no substantial numbers of folks volunteering! This was the main topic of discussion at the Carroll County meeting this month. A major Coos County Club has expressed it's wish to CLOSE DOWN OPERATIONS because of lack of volunteers.
Our clubs are not ski areas operating for a profit. We do not have employees that have a responsibility to maintain a great product for you. We are VOLUNTEERS that are trying to have a good time and that have devoted huge amounts of their personal time to maintain these trails that you enjoy in your spare time. I imagine how much more riding I could do if I was riding instead of working out in the trail system. But then what would happen to the trails that I work on? Would someone else step up? Not to many have so far. If more people were involved to spread out the load then we would all have more time to enjoy the trails and we ALL would be able to take pride in the finished product.
I am eluding to this problem now because the riding has been great and our website as well as all the club websites around the state are getting lots of hits. We want everyone to see the situation we are in and hopefully drive volunteerism to this sport we are all enjoying.

Also please read below. The Ossipee Chamber has asked for help also. Please read below------

For our Membership Dates please see our EVENTS PAGE. All upcoming meeting dates are posted. We will try to post the meeting dates on the Home Page before each meeting...but if we don't have a chance to get it there soon enough for you...remember that they are posted on the EVENTS PAGE -and- that they are held THE FIRST SATURDAY NIGHT OF EACH MONTH.

Enjoy your riding adventures with your families and friends and please ride carefully.

What a surprise this morning to wake up to 7" of new snow instead of the sleet and rain predicted. It is still snowing so the totals are not in yet. This is going to improve the conditions at the perfect time. Looks like another great week of riding coming up.

PLEASE CONTACT US @ ossipeevalley@gmail.com OR THE CHAMBER IF YOU WISH TO GIVE A HAND WITH THIS EVENT.

Remember gang the OVSC Membership Meeting is this Saturday night @ 7:30 @ Samantha's Inn. We will have our meeting and then reside in the Pub for food and beverage. Come on and join us and participate in the club.

Again this season snowmobile racing action is coming to the Ossipee Valley. Brought to you by the Ossipee Valley Chamber of Commerce members, Rock Maple Racing Sno X is back for it's second season at the Mt Whittier former Ski Area. Check out the website for info:
 www.mountainblizzard.com. See our events page.

The weather this week is pretty quiet. We did get some rain today (Wed) with temps in the high 30's. The snowmobile traffic has been light
and that will help preserve the snow in the thinner areas for this weekend. All and all though the conditions are still very good, especially as you climb to the higher elevation trails.

RACING THIS WEEKEND. NO MOTORS....DOGS!!!! Yeah that's right It's Sled Dog Racing this weekend January 21st.

The old New England saying. If you don't like the weather just wait a minute is sure true this week. We are in full January Thaw mode. We don't like it but Barry N. Our equipment manager is taking advantage of it and doing some much needed Tucker maintenance. A full lube job and a new muffler are being done. We will be ready for when winter kicks back in.

Last weekend the snack shack did a brisk business. It was nice to be able to sit and have some Chili and Dogs while shooting the breeze with a bunch of fellow riders. Thanks to Suzanne C. and Skip C. for there volunteer efforts in making passing riders comfortable.

OVSC is a sponsor to the Rock Maple SnoX at Mt Whittier being held in February the weekend of the 23rd and 24th. The operators of the event have asked us to seek volunteers for parking and information personal. For 2 hours of volunteer work you receive a Free Pass to the Events. More information will be posted here as soon as we can release it. If your interested in volunteering call Mark D. at 978-697-4931. www.mountainblizzard.com

Our January Membership Meeting was held last Saturday Night. Thanks to all that showed up and for their input and questions. We got some important work done.  There is so much going on out in the area that we have our trail system and these monthly meetings are needed to get everyone up to date and to vote on important items to the club. Please try to come and be involved, the more the merrier.
Afterwards most of the attendees had food and beverage at Sammy's Pub. A really great time as usual.

OVSC has a piece of grooming equipment available for sale. If you are interested please give us a call at Canoe King / Allsport Autoracks

It's an Ole' Fashioned Winta fo-a shoe-a. Wow! What to do with all this snow??? PLAY IN IT! From the snowmobile trails to the ski areas it's just a fantastic season so far. This last storm dumped 8 to 10 inches in the Ossipee Valley. If you have the time to get out and ride now is a great time.  You won't be disappointed in the conditions and variety of trails to ride through out the whole valley.

We have a trio of new groomer operators to depend on for smooth riding. A big thanks to Rich B. Mark A and Skip C. for taking the time to learn the art of smoothing the trails. Their reward will be long cold nights talking to themselves or someone they talk into riding with them. They love it though so you can expect a great job.

This weekend is the first club membership meeting of the New Year. We'll be at Samantha's Inn on Rte 16 in Tamworth at 7:30pm. You can find us in the conference room. Afterwards Sammy's Paw Print for a bite to eat and a beverage of choice. It's a good time and we hope to see you there.

Again this season snowmobile racing action is coming to the Ossipee Valley. Brought to you by the Ossipee Valley Chamber of Commerce members, Rock Maple Racing Sno X is back for it's second season at the Mt Whittier former Ski Area. Check out the website for info:

We haven't been able to write to our news section for a few days because we were busy grooming out all the snow we have had.
The riding has been excellent. The best early season conditions in quite some time. We received some snow, 2" or so depending on elevation and location in the trail system. It was followed by drizzle and above freezing temps. Still though the riding is very good.
The highest use trails (Bowles and Black Pond) have the normal wear and tear that you would expect. All the other trails up thru the Wonalancet section are in excellent shape. The Corridor 19 rail bed is in great shape. Some rails in places are showing. Remember to always use caution on any rail trail. We are hoping for more snow tonight and thru the weekend. Groomer crews are hoping to go out shortly but it will depend on the temps. It has to get below 32dgs for a couple of hours before we can do anything beneficial to the snow.

Today Susanne C. opened the OVSC Snack Shack and Warming Area located in Canoe King / Allsport Autoracks. We are expecting to be open each Saturday. Stop in and say hi to the gang.

Our monthly membership meeting is next Saturday night at Samantha's Inn 7:30 pm. We will see you there!

The groomer crews have been out making the best of all this new snow that's fallen over the past couple of weeks. Right now the trails are in the best early season condition that they've been in for along time. Fallen trees and limbs had to be cleared in a number of spots. Water bars have slowly been filled in. The trails will have the usual early season stumps and rocks to be on the lookout for.
Please remember the rules of the trails that you'll be needing soon. Give the kids the trail tips that you know will make for a much more enjoyable time out there.
Local EMS reported that a snowmobile had gone thru the THIN ICE on Silver Lake..............? We don't have any details.  We don't want any of our fellow riders to get into trouble out on the lakes. It is still going to take awhile for the ice to be safe. FYI our groomer crew that went by Silver Lake today couldn't believe how much open water there was. Just about the whole lake. The deep snowpack will slow down the freezing process also.
